Advertiser Terms of Service

Last Updated: October 14, 2025

1. Welcome and Company Information

We are very happy that you are here and welcome to CityAreas!

CityAreas is operated by NETERNO SPÓŁKA Z OGRANICZONĄ ODPOWIEDZIALNOŚCIĄ, a limited liability company incorporated in Poland under the following details: KRS: 0000836655, NIP: 9571123321, REGON: 385879146, Registered Office: Ludwika Pasteura 17, 80-215 Gdańsk.

These Advertiser Terms of Service ("Advertiser Terms") explain how we work together with businesses that promote their services on CityAreas. By joining our platform as an advertiser, you also agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, which apply to everyone using CityAreas. If there is ever a difference between those documents and these Advertiser Terms, these Advertiser Terms will take priority for everything related to advertising.

At CityAreas, we publish detailed and trustworthy guides for the world's most-visited cities, showing travelers what each area is really like. We cover every area separately and give advertisers the opportunity to appear exactly where their business belongs, whether you offer lodging, dining, or attractions. Our guides are extremely thorough and form a compendium that travelers trust when planning their trips.

Our mission is to help traveler-focused businesses like yours thrive by connecting you with people who have already chosen your neighborhood because it fits their style and interests, and who are now deciding where to stay, eat, and explore.

We have written these terms in clear, reader-friendly language instead of heavy legal jargon. Our goal is simple: to build a partnership that is transparent, positive, and beneficial for both sides.

2. Definitions

For the purposes of these Advertiser Terms:

“Advertiser” means any business purchasing advertising services through the CityAreas platform. Only legally established businesses are eligible to advertise on CityAreas.

“Ad Content” means all materials submitted for advertising, including text, images, links, and other information provided by the Advertiser.

“Exclusive Sponsorship” means your business is the only one in your Category (for example, Lodging) featured within a specific Area of a city (for example, Manhattan in New York). While your sponsorship is active, no other advertiser from the same Category will appear in that Area. This helps your business stand out clearly to travelers exploring that neighborhood.

“Portal” means our advertiser management system available at portal.cityareas.com.

“Area” means a neighborhood or district that CityAreas has chosen to include in its city guide. Each Area represents both a real part of the city and a dedicated section (or “chapter”) in our online guide. We do not cover every neighborhood – only the ones that are most interesting, appealing, or useful for travelers.

“Category” means one of the three types of businesses that can advertise in an Area: Lodging, Dining, or Attraction.

“Lodging” includes all types of short-term accommodation for travelers, such as hotels, hostels, apartments, vacation rentals, guesthouses, resorts, campsites, and similar places to stay.

“Dining” includes places that primarily serve food or beverages for guests to enjoy on-site or take away, such as restaurants, cafés, bakeries, food trucks, and similar venues.

“Attraction” includes places or experiences that travelers visit for leisure, culture, or entertainment, such as museums, parks, landmarks, tours, shows, shopping destinations, and other points of interest.

3. Subscription Terms and Billing

Advertising on CityAreas is provided through a monthly subscription.

Each subscription begins on the day you make your first payment and continues for one full calendar month. For example, if you start on January 3, your subscription will continue until February 3. At the end of each period, it renews automatically for another month unless you cancel it beforehand through the Portal. This makes it simple to keep your listing active and visible to travelers at all times.

Pricing

Our pricing is set individually for each city and business category (lodging, dining, or attraction).

The reason for this is straightforward: some cities attract far more traveler interest than others. In very popular destinations, people search online much more often for travel-related keywords such as “where to stay in [city name]” or “best areas in [city name]”. This means we can efficiently invest a larger marketing budget in promoting those city guides, reaching travelers exactly when they are planning their trips.

Because CityAreas reinvests 50% of all advertising revenue into marketing, our system automatically adjusts the level of promotion by city. If we charged the same price for both highly visited and less visited cities, we would either underspend in popular cities, leaving potential exposure unused, or overspend in smaller ones. Our pricing algorithm prevents that by making sure every business is promoted to the right extent for its market.

In short, our pricing is about investing where it makes sense, guided by real traveler interest. This ensures that every advertiser benefits from a size of marketing spend that is efficient, data-driven, and tailored to their market.

CityAreas may occasionally adjust its pricing to reflect real travel trends and marketing costs. If we do, we will always provide at least 30 days’ notice to existing advertisers before the new rates take effect. Subscriptions already paid for will continue at their current rate until the end of the paid month.

Payments

All payments are handled securely by Stripe, Inc. (“Stripe”), our trusted global payment provider. Advertisers manage their payment methods directly through Stripe, not through CityAreas. It is the Advertiser’s responsibility to keep their payment details up to date in their Stripe account to ensure uninterrupted service.

If a payment does not go through successfully, Stripe’s Smart Retry system will automatically attempt to process it again several times over the following days. During this time, you have seven (7) days to resolve the issue.

CityAreas takes a customer-friendly approach during this period. Your advertisement remains visible in our city guides, your advertising spot stays reserved exclusively for your business, and we continue to invest in promoting your city guide to travelers – even though payment has not yet been received.

If the payment is successfully completed within those seven days, your subscription continues without interruption, and that period counts as part of your current billing month. If payment is not completed within seven days, your subscription ends automatically, and your advertising spot becomes available for other businesses.

4. Refunds, Cancellation, and Ad Images

Refund Policy

When you purchase advertising on CityAreas, your subscription begins immediately. Even before your advertisement is reviewed and approved, we increase our marketing budget by an amount equal to 50 percent of your fee, calculated on a daily basis throughout the subscription period. This means funds are committed from the first day to promoting the city guide where your business will appear. For that reason, subscription payments are normally non-refundable once made.

Refunds are available only in the limited situations described below, where keeping the payment would clearly be unreasonable.

(a) Ad Rejection

This applies only to new advertisers whose submitted ad content clearly violates these Advertiser Terms and cannot reasonably be corrected.

In such cases, we reject the ad and issue a full refund of the payment within 14 days.

(b) Service Unavailability

CityAreas uses best-in-class hosting and technology partners, targeting 99.99 percent uptime for our city guides and the display of exclusive sponsorship placements. Significant outages are highly unlikely. However, if the Service ever becomes completely unavailable, you can report it to contact@cityareas.com.

If the unavailability lasts for more than 24 hours from the time you report it, you will receive a proportional refund for that downtime once normal service is restored. (This means you will be refunded for the amount of time the Service was not accessible.)

Refunds are always processed to the same payment method you used originally.

CityAreas works only with business advertisers, not private individuals. In the rare case that someone qualifies as a “consumer” under EU law, the normal 14-day withdrawal right does not apply, as advertising services begin immediately after payment with your explicit consent. This follows Article 16(a) of the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU).

Cancellation

You can cancel your subscription at any time through your Stripe Customer Portal. A direct link to manage or cancel your subscription is always available after logging in to portal.cityareas.com.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current monthly billing period. Until that time, your advertisement remains visible and we continue to invest in marketing for your city guide. When the billing period ends, your subscription simply does not renew.

No refund is provided for the remaining days of an active billing month, since both the advertising service and associated marketing investment continue through the end of that period.

If you decide to resume before expiration, you can reactivate your subscription directly in your Stripe Customer Portal. Once the period ends, you can start a new subscription at the current rate, provided your advertising slot in that Area and Category is still available.

Ad Images

To ensure that CityAreas performs quickly and consistently for travelers worldwide, all submitted images are automatically optimized. We may resize, compress, and convert them to WebP or other web-friendly formats.

5. Ad Placement and Exclusivity

Category Exclusivity

Each Area on CityAreas supports a maximum of three advertisers, one in each of the three Categories: Lodging, Dining, and Attraction.

When you subscribe to advertise with CityAreas, you receive exclusive visibility within your Category in your selected Area.

This means:

  • No competing advertiser from the same Category will appear in that Area while your subscription is active.
  • Advertisers from different Categories (for example, a lodging business, a dining venue, and an attraction) may appear together in the same Area.
  • Exclusivity applies only to the specific Area and Category you purchased, not to the entire city.

CityAreas aims to help its advertisers grow and become recognized leaders within their Areas. We maintain loyalty to our advertisers by keeping their advertising spot reserved for them as long as their subscription remains active. Advertisers also benefit from CityAreas’ ongoing investment in marketing and platform development, which continues to increase the reach and reputation of our guides over time.

Geographic Allocation

Your advertisement appears in the specific Area and city guide you selected when subscribing. It is displayed consistently across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices to ensure visibility on all platforms.

Advertisements are placed within the editorial chapters of each Area. CityAreas may occasionally adjust or test different ad placements within those chapters – for example, near the beginning, middle, or end – to ensure the best user experience and visibility for all advertisers. While exact positioning within the chapter may vary, the ad will always appear within the correct Area section of the guide.

Display Positioning

Each Area includes only one advertising row. This design keeps CityAreas’ pages clear, fast, and visually balanced, following user experience principles supported by organizations such as BetterAds.org.

When one, two, or three advertisers are present in an Area:

  • If there is one advertiser, it appears alone, filling the entire row.
  • If there are two advertisers, each has a 50 percent probability of appearing on the left or right side each time the page loads.
  • If there are three advertisers, each has an equal one-third probability of appearing in the left, center, or right position.

The display order is randomized each time the page loads, ensuring fair and balanced visibility for all advertisers. CityAreas does not grant fixed or preferential positioning.

Benefits of Joining at Different Stages

Each stage of advertising in an Area offers its own advantages.

  • When you are the first advertiser, your business appears alone in that Area, giving travelers complete focus on your service.
  • When additional advertisers from other Categories join, the total marketing investment promoting that city guide increases significantly. This means the page receives higher traffic, and all advertisers share the benefit of a larger audience.

This approach keeps CityAreas balanced for travelers and fair for advertisers, ensuring meaningful exposure whether you join first, second, or third.

6. Advertising Standards

Advertiser Representations

By purchasing advertising services, the Advertiser confirms that all information provided to CityAreas is accurate and that its business operates lawfully and responsibly. Specifically, the Advertiser represents and warrants that:

  1. It is not subject to any national or international sanctions or restrictions that would prevent it from entering into this agreement.
  2. All funds used for advertising payments come from legitimate and lawful sources.
  3. It holds all necessary rights, permissions, and licenses to advertise its products or services on CityAreas.
  4. It maintains all legally required business registrations, permits, and certificates in every jurisdiction where it operates.
  5. Its Ad Content does not infringe any intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of third parties.
  6. It complies with all applicable laws, advertising standards, and ethical guidelines.

Content Modifications and Editorial Context

CityAreas continually refines both its website (the city guides) and its advertisement layout to maintain a premium standard of quality. These improvements help ensure that the platform remains visually consistent, easy to use, and trusted by travelers.

We believe that excellent user experience and advertiser benefit go hand in hand. When CityAreas looks professional, loads quickly, and feels pleasant to use, travelers engage more deeply with the content – and with the businesses featured within it.

As part of ongoing improvements, CityAreas may:

  • Adjust the layout or presentation of advertisements, including spacing, typography, or placement within an Area, to ensure a polished and consistent design across devices.
  • Update design elements such as color, background, or borders to reflect the visual identity of CityAreas as it evolves.
  • Reposition Areas within a city guide based on traveler feedback, analytics, or usability improvements, to make navigation clearer and content easier to find.
  • Revise or expand editorial commentary about Areas to ensure that information remains accurate, objective, and genuinely helpful to travelers.

CityAreas will never modify an advertiser’s Ad Content itself (such as text, images, or links). All content changes remain entirely under the advertiser’s control.

Editorial commentary is produced independently to maintain the objectivity of CityAreas guides. This transparency builds trust among travelers, which in turn benefits all advertisers featured on the platform.

No compensation, refund, or adjustment is provided for updates or layout changes, as they are essential to maintaining a consistent, functional, and premium platform for everyone.

7. Advertising Budget Allocation

Ad Spend Commitment

CityAreas reinvests fifty percent (50%) of all net subscription revenue directly into paid advertising campaigns that promote each city guide.

“Net subscription revenue” means total subscription payments excluding consumption taxes such as VAT, GST, or similar charges where applicable.

This allocation applies collectively to all advertisers sponsoring Areas within the same city. We calculate the daily advertising budget by dividing the monthly total by 30.4, representing the average number of days in a month.

For example, if advertisers from New York collectively spend $10,000 per month on CityAreas sponsorships, CityAreas allocates $5,000 to promote its New York city guide. Divided by 30.4, this equals a daily budget of $164.47. Actual daily ad spend may be slightly lower or higher depending on real-time factors such as search demand and campaign pacing, but over time total spend will average to the committed amount.

When a new advertiser joins or an existing advertiser leaves, the city’s total advertising budget and daily allocation are updated automatically, ensuring that investment always reflects current participation.

CityAreas covers all non-consumption taxes and business expenses separately, including income tax (CIT) and operational costs. None of these are deducted from the 50% reinvestment. That portion goes entirely toward paid advertising campaigns.

Transparency:
CityAreas operates this process in full advertiser view. Advertisers can:

  • Log in to the Portal to see the total subscription fees collected for their city and the 50% ad budget derived from those fees.
  • Access a Looker Studio dashboard, linked from the Portal, showing daily ad spend for their particular city guide.

This setup allows advertisers to independently verify how much is spent and when, providing clear insight into how their city’s advertising budget is managed.

Beyond the 50%

Paid advertising is only one of the ways CityAreas drives traffic. The remaining 50% of subscription revenue supports the broader work that keeps the platform visible, high-quality, and sustainable over time.

This portion funds:

  • Ongoing SEO and chatbot optimization, which attract travelers organically from search engines and conversational platforms.
  • Social-media operations that increase awareness of CityAreas and bring new travelers to our guides.
  • Professional campaign management by highly experienced performance marketers who ensure that all advertising funds are used efficiently and strategically.
  • Profitability and business stability, allowing CityAreas to operate sustainably and keep improving over time.

Each month, CityAreas may focus its broader promotional activities on different cities or on the CityAreas brand as a whole. These efforts help build the overall audience and recognition that benefit all advertisers collectively.

In short, while half of each subscription is spent directly on paid ads for your city, the other half enables CityAreas to attract travelers through additional channels and remain strong, effective, and forward-looking – today and in the future.

Campaign Structure

CityAreas runs separate advertising campaigns for every city, each tailored to traveler intent for that destination.

For example, the campaign for Paris targets search terms such as “best area to stay in Paris” or “where to stay in Paris for families.” Each campaign uses unique creative assets and audience targeting specific to that city. Budgets are updated automatically whenever advertisers join or leave.

All campaigns are managed according to expert performance-marketing principles, overseen by Xavier Tyzo, who holds the Expert Vetted badge on UpWork, awarded to the top 1% of freelancers globally. Xavier ensures that campaigns are optimized continuously using the latest industry best practices.

Platform Strategy

At present, CityAreas primarily uses Google Ads, focusing on Google Search campaigns to reach travelers at the exact moment they are planning where to stay, dine, and explore.

CityAreas may also use other Google properties, such as YouTube, Google Display, Discover, or Performance Max, and may expand to other advertising platforms including Microsoft Ads, Meta Ads, TikTok Ads, Pinterest Ads, or others that demonstrate strong potential for return on investment.

Platform selection and budget allocation are determined solely by CityAreas based on performance, efficiency, and changing advertising conditions. Advertisers can always check the latest version of these Terms to see which platforms are currently in use.

Geographic Targeting and Value Optimization

CityAreas runs global campaigns to reach travelers from around the world. To make the most of every advertising dollar, we apply a proprietary bidding algorithm that trains advertising platforms to adjust bids intelligently across countries.

This approach is balanced and inclusive:

  • Advertising only in higher-income countries would limit exposure to travelers elsewhere.
  • Advertising only in lower-income countries could deliver the largest number of clicks but less meaningful revenue.

Our algorithm combines both goals. It provides global exposure while teaching advertising systems to bid higher in markets where travelers have greater purchasing power and a higher probability of purchasing your service. In other words, it optimizes for expected value, not just cost per click and the number of clicks to your website.

This ensures that:

  • Your business gains global visibility among relevant travelers.
  • Advertising spend remains efficient and well-balanced across regions.
  • No market is favored or excluded; each is valued fairly according to its potential.

CityAreas reviews and fine-tunes these settings regularly, incorporating feedback from advertisers and data insights to keep improving campaign effectiveness.

8. Initial Ad Review and Approval Process

Initial Review

After a successful payment, CityAreas begins the Review Period, which lasts 24 hours.

The Review Period starts as soon as payment is confirmed by Stripe. During this time, our team reviews the submitted Ad Content to ensure it meets our technical, editorial, and quality standards.

If you'd like to modify your Ad Content, it is possible through the Portal even before we review your initial ad. However, please note that it extends the Review Period by 24 hours, counted from the moment of submission of the updated Ad Content. Therefore, we suggest modifying your Ad Content later, once your ad has been approved, as it will enable your ad to be visible on your chosen city guide sooner. We explain that process more in section 9 of these Terms.

The review can result in one of three outcomes:

  1. Accepted – the ad is approved and published.
  2. Change Requested – the ad needs updates before it can be published.
  3. Rejected – the ad cannot be published because it violates these Terms or is otherwise unsuitable.

The Review Period is part of the paid subscription service. Marketing investment into promoting the advertiser’s city guide increases immediately after payment, and the subscription continues while the ad is being reviewed.

Acceptance Criteria

To be approved, all Ad Content must meet the following standards:

  • Language: The advertisement must be written in English.
  • Accuracy: It must truthfully represent the advertiser’s actual business, service, or location. Descriptions should reflect what travelers will genuinely experience.
  • Tone and presentation: Your ad content must be clear, polite, and easy to read, avoiding all-caps, excessive punctuation (such as “!!!” or “???”), exaggerated claims, or subjective superlatives such as “#1,” “best,” “top,” or “leading,” unless those statements are factually accurate and supported by credible, independent evidence displayed within the ad itself.
  • Links: All URLs must be active and functional, leading to a legitimate website that clearly matches the advertised business.
  • Area selection: The advertiser must choose the correct Area, meaning the neighborhood or section of the city where the business is physically located, so that ads appear in the right context for travelers.
  • Category selection: The advertiser must select the correct Category (Lodging, Dining, or Attraction) that accurately represents their business. Ad Content must promote only the products or services relevant to that Category. For example, if you purchase a Dining category ad, your Ad Content should promote your dining services, not lodging or attractions.
  • Technical quality: Images and materials must follow the technical requirements listed in the Portal, including the correct file type, size, and aspect ratio.
  • Legality: Content must be lawful in all jurisdictions, since CityAreas is a global platform, and must comply with these Terms and all applicable advertising laws.
  • Authority to advertise: The person submitting the ad must have the legal right to advertise on behalf of the business and be authorized to make marketing decisions for it.
  • Intellectual property: All text, images, and logos must be created, owned, or properly licensed by the advertiser. The advertiser grants CityAreas permission to display and use these materials as part of the advertising service.

These standards ensure that ads on CityAreas are accurate, professional, and trustworthy for travelers and other advertisers.

Change Requests

If an ad needs adjustments, CityAreas will send clear feedback to the advertiser’s registered email address.

Typical reasons include broken links, inaccurate details, formatting issues, or small policy inconsistencies.

Advertisers can upload corrected materials through the Portal at any time. Once the updated content is submitted, CityAreas reviews it again within 24 hours.

If more changes are required, the process continues until the ad meets all requirements. During this time, the subscription remains active and CityAreas continues the advertising spend for that specific city guide while keeping the advertiser’s slot reserved.

CityAreas works closely with advertisers during this step and aims to complete approvals as quickly as possible so the ads can start delivering results. This review stage is a one-time part of onboarding and is included in the subscription. Refunds or rebates are not available for the review period, as subscription timing is fixed for operational simplicity for both parties. Advertisers can help ensure a fast start by submitting complete and compliant materials at the outset.

Rejection and Refunds

CityAreas may reject Ad Content only in serious or non-curable cases, such as when the content clearly violates these Terms, applicable law, or professional standards, or when publishing it would make CityAreas unsafe or inappropriate for travelers and advertisers.

Examples include unlawful, offensive, fraudulent, or misleading content.

If CityAreas decides that an ad must be fully rejected, the advertiser will receive a full refund of the related payment to the same payment method used for the purchase, within 14 days.

All rejection decisions are made using professional judgment, with the goal of keeping CityAreas a high-quality and brand-safe environment for everyone.

9. Advertiser Data and Ad Content Modification Process

Advertisement Content Changes (manual review)

After an advertisement is approved during the Initial Review, described in section 8 of these Terms, advertisers can modify their ad through the Portal.

All modifications to Ad Content elements, such as headline, description, image, call-to-action text, or target URL, must be reviewed and approved by CityAreas before publication.

We review changes to keep the website safe and high-quality for both travelers and advertisers. This helps maintain a trusted environment where every business benefits from strong traveler confidence.

  • Each change is reviewed within 24 hours of submission.
  • If you submit another change before we have completed the previous review, the review clock resets, and only your latest version will be reviewed and considered for approval.
  • During the review, the previously approved advertisement remains active on CityAreas.
  • When the review is complete, you will receive an email notification confirming approval or explaining any issues that need fixing.
  • This review process is part of the service and included in your subscription price.

Business Information Updates (automatic processing)

Certain business details can be updated instantly in the Portal without review.

These include your company name, business address, phone number, and VAT or tax ID.

  • Updates take effect immediately in CityAreas’ internal records.
  • They do not affect payment, billing, or invoice data stored in Stripe. Please note that it is Stripe that is responsible for issuing invoices, so if you wish to update your invoice information, you will need to additionally make changes in the Stripe Customer Portal, as described in the next clause.

Payment Information Updates (via Stripe Customer Portal)

All payment-related details are managed securely in Stripe’s Customer Portal.

This includes changes to your payment method, billing address, and invoice information.

  • You can access the Stripe Customer Portal using the link provided in your Portal account or billing emails.
  • Changes made in Stripe apply immediately to all future payments.
  • CityAreas does not have access to your payment information and cannot modify it on your behalf.

Account Email Address

Your registered email address is the key to your account. It’s where we send your secure login links and important notifications, and it uniquely identifies you in our system.

Because it’s tied to your identity and access, we don’t allow it to be changed directly in the Portal. This helps us make sure any request to update it isn’t coming from someone trying to take over your account.

If you need to change your registered email, please contact us at contact@cityareas.com. Our team will verify your identity and update it safely.

Dashboard Access (Looker Studio)

Each advertiser receives access to a Looker Studio dashboard showing transparent statistics updated daily for their advertisement and city guide.

Because Google requires authentication, only users with a Gmail or Google Workspace account can be granted access.

  • You can assign up to ten (10) Google email addresses per advertisement for dashboard access.
  • Access is activated or updated within six hours after addresses are submitted in the Portal.
  • These addresses do not have to match your main account email.
  • Addresses that are not linked to a Google Account cannot be granted access, as Google will not authenticate them.

The dashboard currently displays:

  • Page views of your specific city guide,
  • Daily ad spend on promoting that city guide,
  • Clicks on your individual advertisement (redirecting the user to your website), and
  • Geographic distribution of those clicks by country.

This transparency helps advertisers see exactly how their ads perform and how CityAreas promotes their city guide globally.

Audit Trail

For security and transparency, all changes made in the Portal are automatically logged.

Each log entry includes the timestamp, IP address, device information, and a summary of the change.

This record ensures accountability for both CityAreas and advertisers.

10. Service Limitations and Performance

No Guarantee of Results

We work carefully to deliver meaningful visibility for our advertisers, but no digital advertising platform can guarantee specific results.

Advertising outcomes depend on many factors outside our reasonable control, including:

  • The level of competition on paid advertising platforms where we promote our city guides.
  • Search-engine algorithms and how often our pages appear in organic results.
  • AI chatbot algorithms and how often conversational AI cites and links to CityAreas.
  • Social-media algorithms that determine how frequently our content is shown or promoted.
  • The level of competition among businesses in a given city or category.
  • Seasonal changes in traveler demand.
  • Economic conditions, public-health situations, or other global events that influence travel.
  • The appeal, pricing, and quality of the advertiser’s own offer.
  • The conversion rate and overall effectiveness of the advertiser’s website or booking process.
  • Differences in user preferences, interests, and decision-making patterns.

Because of these factors, CityAreas cannot promise or guarantee any specific number of visitors, clicks, conversions, bookings, or revenue outcomes.

CityAreas does, however, use commercially reasonable efforts, consistent with professional standards and best practices in digital marketing, to achieve strong and sustainable performance. All performance marketing efforts are led by Xavier Tyzo, a performance marketer who holds the Expert Vetted badge on UpWork, awarded to the top 1% of freelancers globally. Xavier oversees all campaigns and the specialists involved in creating them, ensuring that every initiative follows the latest and most effective industry practices.

While we strive for the best possible outcomes for our advertisers, future performance depends on many external variables that no marketing professional or platform can fully control.

Tracking and Reporting Limitations

CityAreas provides advertisers with analytics and reporting dashboards that summarize visibility and engagement trends. These figures are valuable for understanding general performance but are subject to normal technical and privacy-related limitations.

The most common factors that may affect data accuracy include:

  • Cookiebot consent choices: Users can accept or reject cookies and tracking when visiting CityAreas. CityAreas protects user privacy worldwide, even in regions where cookie/tracking consent is not legally required. In September 2025, 38% of users declined tracking and cookies, meaning statistics visible to advertisers reflected only about 62% of total activity. Real user interactions were therefore approximately 61% higher than reported, based on that factor alone. These patterns can change month to month, but this figure provides a general idea of the possible scale of underreporting.
  • Ad blockers, VPNs, and private-browsing tools: These features can prevent certain visits or clicks from being recorded. VPNs may also cause visits to appear as if they originated from different countries or regions, which can distort geographic data.
  • User privacy regulations such as GDPR: These restrict how much behavioral data can be collected or linked to individual users.
  • Cross-device and cross-browser use: When travelers use multiple devices or browsers, analytics systems may treat them as separate users, affecting visitor counts.
  • Automated or bot traffic: Automated visits may appear in analytics data and are included in reported figures.

Because of these unavoidable limitations, analytics and reporting data are provided as-is and as-available. They are accurate within reasonable technical boundaries but may not reflect 100% of actual user activity.

The CityAreas analytics dashboard should be used as a helpful performance indicator, not a flawless measurement tool. While no analytics system can perfectly capture all user behavior, CityAreas uses world-class tracking technology and privacy-respecting methods to provide advertisers with reliable, transparent, and meaningful insights.

11. Third-Party Dependencies

CityAreas relies on trusted global partners to deliver payment and advertising services. While we carefully choose these providers for their reliability and performance, some factors remain outside our direct control.

Payment Processing (Stripe)

All payments are handled securely through Stripe, one of the world’s leading payment processors.

CityAreas is not responsible for any losses, delays, or interruptions caused by issues within Stripe’s systems, including:

  • Temporary service outages or processing delays,
  • Failed or declined transactions,
  • Stripe account suspensions or terminations, or
  • Changes to Stripe’s own fees, terms, or policies.

Advertisers are responsible for maintaining a valid and active account with Stripe and for following Stripe’s applicable terms of service.

If Stripe experiences a payment issue or delay, CityAreas will cooperate with the advertiser to resolve it promptly, but final control over payment processing lies with Stripe.

Advertising Platforms

CityAreas runs its advertising campaigns through major digital platforms, primarily Google Ads and other recognized advertising networks.

Because these platforms operate independently, some factors that affect ad delivery are beyond CityAreas’ control.

This includes, for example:

  • Platform outages or technical failures,
  • Ad disapprovals, suspensions, or enforcement actions by the platforms,
  • Policy or algorithm changes that influence how or when ads are shown,
  • Competitive bidding fluctuations that affect advertising costs, or
  • Platform-imposed limits or restrictions on ad placements.

CityAreas continuously monitors campaign performance and adapts its strategy when such changes occur, but cannot be held liable for issues directly caused by third-party advertising systems.

Force Majeure and Industry-Wide Disruptions

In addition to standard force majeure events (such as natural disasters or major internet outages), CityAreas is not responsible for delays or interruptions caused by broader industry or regulatory conditions, including:

  • Widespread failures or disruptions across major advertising platforms,
  • New regulations that materially affect online advertising,
  • Large-scale invalid or automated traffic (bots or spam clicks),
  • Major currency fluctuations impacting international campaign costs, or
  • Failures of domain registrars, hosting services, or other key infrastructure providers.

While these events are rare, CityAreas will always act in good faith to minimize their impact and restore full service as quickly as possible.

12. Waitlist System

When the advertising slot in a specific Category and Area is taken, CityAreas operates a fair and transparent waitlist system for interested businesses.

How the Waitlist Works

  • If your preferred Category and Area slot is currently unavailable, you can join the waitlist through our checkout flow.
  • When the slot becomes available, CityAreas will notify you by email.
  • Multiple businesses may join the waitlist for the same slot. When a space opens, all waitlisted advertisers are notified at the same time. The slot is then allocated on a first-come, first-served basis at the moment of confirmed purchase, meaning everyone on the waitlist has an equal opportunity to secure it.
  • Joining the waitlist does not create any obligation to buy when notified.

Notification and Subscription Terms

  • If you decide to purchase when notified, your subscription will begin immediately as a new monthly plan with automatic renewal under these Advertiser Terms.
  • CityAreas sends all waitlist notifications by email, but cannot be responsible for delivery issues caused by spam filtering, blocked messages, or technical errors that interfere with email sending or receipt.

To avoid missing an available slot, advertisers are encouraged to check their inbox and spam folder regularly and to whitelist @cityareas.com as a trusted sender.

13. Advertiser Analytics Use (Controller Terms)

CityAreas provides advertisers with access to analytics tools and reports, such as the Looker Studio dashboard, to help understand and improve advertising performance.

These tools display only aggregated and anonymized data, but advertisers still have important responsibilities when handling that information.

When you purchase or use CityAreas advertising services – including access to the Looker Studio dashboard or any other reports or analytics we provide (“Analytics Data”) – you act as an independent data controller for your own use of that data.

By using Analytics Data, you agree to:

  1. Use it only to evaluate and improve your advertising campaigns on CityAreas.
  2. Keep it secure, implementing appropriate technical and organizational measures and limiting access to authorized staff.

14. Compliance and Sanctions

CityAreas operates globally and follows the legal and payment-industry standards that apply to online advertising platforms.

We work only with legitimate businesses and cooperate with our payment partners and authorities when required to meet compliance obligations.

Sanctions Compliance

Advertisers confirm that:

  • Neither the business nor its owners or managers appear on official sanctions lists;
  • The business is not based in or controlled from a country or territory subject to international sanctions;
  • No person or company owning 25 percent or more of the business is sanctioned.

If a payment processor or authority identifies a sanctions issue, CityAreas may need to pause or terminate the related advertising service to comply with applicable law.

Anti-Money-Laundering (AML)

All payments must come from lawful business activity.

If required by law or by payment partners, CityAreas may ask for clarification or documentation about a payment.

Advertising may be paused until the matter is resolved.

Know Your Customer (KYC)

When legally required or requested by payment partners, CityAreas may ask advertisers to confirm basic business details, such as:

  • A business registration certificate,
  • Information about owners or representatives,
  • A tax identification number, or
  • Proof of business address.

Requested documents must be provided within 14 days.

If not received, the advertisement may be temporarily paused until verification is complete.

15. Use of Advertiser and CityAreas Branding

CityAreas is proud to feature great local businesses, and we’re happy when our advertisers want to show that they are part of our platform.

Use by CityAreas

By becoming an advertiser, you allow CityAreas to use your business name, logo, and other publicly available branding materials to show and promote your participation in our platform.

This may include:

  • Displaying your name or logo in your city guide, on CityAreas.com, and in promotional materials;
  • Referring to your business in presentations or lists of featured advertisers; and
  • Showing your logo or business name near your advertisement or on related marketing pages.

We use these materials in a respectful and positive way that reflects well on your brand. You keep full ownership of your logo and branding. If you ever want us to stop using them, just email contact@cityareas.com, and we will remove them from future use.

Use by Advertisers

You are welcome to share that your business is featured on CityAreas or that you are the exclusive sponsor of your Area. You can mention CityAreas on your website, social media, or other marketing materials and use our logo for that purpose.

You can download the official CityAreas logo here:

Please use the logo in a way that keeps its original design clear and unmodified. It should not imply ownership of or official partnership with CityAreas – only that you advertise with us.

If you would like guidance on how best to display the logo or mention your participation, contact us anytime at contact@cityareas.com.
